Makeup Looks with Urban Decay’s Naked Heat Palette and Review

Hello beautiful ladies,

This is going to be a two in one post – first up, I’m going to show you some of the makeup looks I’ve created with the Urban Decay Naked Heat palette and then I’ll give you my detailed review so you might need a coffee and a seat.

I have been trying to use this palette as much as possible to create some makeup looks so you can see for yourself how this palette can work for everyday looks to daytime glam to night time glam.

So, I thought I’d try a fairly simple, everyday low key look first up with this palette. The lighting is terrible in the afternoon so please excuse that.

I’m going to work with this look (even though I can get away with ott) so I thought I’d do a neutral burnt orange/brown. This is something that you could do quickly everyday.

Lips: Too Faced Sweet Peach Oil Lip Gloss in Papa Don’t Peach.

This is my favourite look out of them all, with a metallic halo and orange/brown smoky. The shimmer needs to be applied with either your fingers (not enough precision for me) or with a brush and Fix+. The shimmer just doesn’t work and by work, I mean show up in the swatches on your eyes work, without that genius Mac invention.

This is perfect for a night time event or date (not that I do either with a toddler). Again, I used the Mac Fix+ to make the shimmer really pop.

I was actually just running some errands but I needed one more look for this post and I wanted to show dramatic. The things I do for a review 🙂

• URBAN DECAY Naked Heat Eyeshadow Palette

• RRP – $83 from http://www.mecca.com.au (available from August 29)

Suitable for? – Anyone who loves warm  earthy tones and wants a bit of intensity with it.

Is Urban Decay cruelty free? Yes, though it is owned by L’Oréal, who aren’t.

My Thoughts? – In the swatches, I was super impressed with the metallic shimmers but the mattes were a bit uninviting. On my eyes, the mattes were easy to work with but the shimmers just didn’t pop like I was expecting from the swatches though they did blend well.

Lumbre, Dirty Talk, Scorched and Ember (metallic shimmers) were not glittery or chunky which will impress anyone that isn’t a fan of those. I ended up using my Mac Fix+ to really make these intense and they lasted about eight hours before starting to fade.

The formula for Sauced and Low Blow is a soft, silky texture that applied beautifully though they are a bit darker than I’d use as a base but make great transition shades. The base shades, Ounce and Chaser, are sheer but work well as a highlight and base in that order. The formula for He Devil, Cayenne, En Fuego and Ashes is drier than the other matte shades and I’d recommend proper prep of your eyelid or you’ll end up with a patchy look (I did test that and its not pretty).

There is a nice selection of bold, earthy tones in this palette and I can get away with using just this palette, as I’ve shown in the three looks above but in future, I would probably need another palette to create more of a contrast. That is fine with me because I’ve got so many palettes that need to be used with other palettes. I’ve also got so many palettes, I can find what I’m looking for to compliment this one. It’s just not a palette that works perfectly on its own (like Sweet Peach or Modern Renaissance).

Pros

• the bold, warm earthy tones
• the shimmers are incredible when used with the Mac Fix+
• blends nicely (when prepped)
• the packaging is beautiful
• I have nothing in my collection like these colours

Cons

• it isn’t a cool toned person’s palette at all
• the shades do require effort to make them work – if you don’t have time to prep your eyelids, this isn’t going to work for you.
• some of the shades blend into each other and there isn’t enough contrast
• the price

So, is it a necessity? That’s a hard question – if you don’t like strong, bold warm tones, then no; if you want a palette that has multiple looks without having to reach for another, then no; if you want a palette that doesn’t require effort, then no, this palette is not for you.

If however, you’re like me and don’t care about any of those cons, then this is a necessity. I have nothing else close to these gorgeous burnt orange/sienna/bronzey coppers. Once you’ve figured out how to make this work for you, I think its a palette I would reach for quite often, even just to use one or two shades from it each time. Is that enough to justify $83?
