Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow Face Sculpt and Highlight Palette Review

Hello beautiful ladies,

In November last year, I placed a Beautylish order that was my first taste of some Charlotte Tilbury products. The reason I had to try CT was because by this stage, I was a huge Wayne Goss fan and he spoke highly of this particular product. So, I thought it was about time to write my review.

Suitable for? – The Filmstar palette comes in two shade ranges – light to medium and medium to dark. I consider myself a medium skin tone and chose the fair to medium to be on the safe side.

Packaging? – The box is a dark maroon with gold lettering that slides off in two parts on either side of anther box. The actual product is rose gold with the CT symbol in the middle of the outer case and rays like you’d draw sunshine. There is a mirror the size of the inside lid with a tiny trademark CT star engraved on it. It has a clasp to keep the case shut. Very luxurious looking which is what I’d expect for the price.

Is Charlotte Tilbury cruelty free? – Yes

My thoughts? – I’m not going to lie, the price of this palette is very steep for most people to consider it. If it wasn’t for the honesty I’ve come to respect from Wayne Goss, I never would’ve considered it at all. In saying that now, I am so happy I bought it. If you have been following me on my blog or Instagram, you’ll notice it features a lot in my motd photos. If it wasn’t for my system of not using products that are in line to be photographed, I’d probably use it every day.

I just want to say that the bronzer is a subtle shimmery natural looking shade, without being glittery or having orange undertones. Personally, I use it as a bronzer and a contour and I love how I end up with a glowy look to my skin. The highlighter is a pale golden shimmer without being glittery (perfect for all of you that can’t stand that glittery highlight), or having too much shine.

I have quite a few contour palettes and I’ll use them but I’ve never gone, I love that about one. (I must say though that as yet I haven’t used my Kat Von D contour palette.) When I bought the CT, I had very high hopes, as in sky high so there was plenty of room for my hopes to fall. When I first started using it, I was disappointed with the highlighter because I like mine to shine from the stars but as I’ve been recording my motd items, I’ve realised that a lot of the looks I do, shining from the stars isn’t always an option. If I’ve gone heavy on the eyes, I usually try to keep everything else low key, much like when I’m picking out an outfit.

So, in the 8 months I’ve had this palette, it has become my go-to contour palette. The price tag is indeed quite high, especially if you are in Australia, and I would never recommend buying something so expensive if I didn’t believe 110% it was worth every cent.

Pros

  • small, compact packaging
  • generous pan sizes
  • luxurious rose gold packaging
  • photographs awesome for bloggers 🙂
  • the bronzer is the perfect contour/bronzer shade for real life
  • the highlight can be worn day and night without being to ott
  • you don’t need a lot of product so it will last a looong time

Cons

  • the price

So, is it a necessity? – If I was to recommend one bronzer/contour palette, it would be this one. I’ve got about 10 different bronzer/contour palettes from drugstore to mid end and I use them all less than this one combined. If I was to work out the price of some of my palettes per use, they would end up being a lot more expensive than this one.

So, yes, I do think this is a necessity but if its too much all at once, I’d save or put it on your Xmas/birthday wishlist (as the only item). When, and that is a loooong way off, I do hit pan, this is an item I’ll be backing up, like I would my favourite mascara.

If you have this palette, I’d love to know your thoughts on it in the comments. Thank you for reading 🙂

  1. I love how this palette looks, I’m really obsessed with the whole look of it. I’ve heard good things about it too. Unfortunately I cannot get it here, but when I travel I will definitely consider purchasing it. Lovely post x

    1. It’s a shame there’s so many brands not available worldwide. Luckily Beautylish has free international shipping (I’m not sure if they ship to you though) or I wouldn’t have been able to buy it either. I would definitely put it on my Wishlist when you have access to it and it will last you a long time. Thank you for reading my post 😊

  2. Thankyou!! I’ve been tossing up, do I or don’t I? I trust Wayne Goss 100% as well as a few others who have highly recommended this. My worry is the colour on my medium to dark ( summer skin) but I’m thinking I could get away with the lighter one. I’ve considered the KatVonD also but know I won’t use most of the product in the palette .. thanks again for another helpful blog

    1. I picked up the Kat Von D again to use today, changed my mind and went back to the CT. It is hard to recommend which one to get for your skin shade but this one does build a bit for a deeper shade. I did do swatches but they just didn’t show up like they do on my face. I thought the swatches wouldn’t do the product justice so I left them out. Thank you for reading my post 😊

    1. I’ve got a lipstick, the Finish Powder and an Eyeshadow quad at the moment and out of everything so far, the Filmstar is the one I think everyone should splurge on. Don’t get me wrong, I love the other products too but in truth, they are more lust haves. Thank you for reading 😍
