Too Faced White Chocolate Chip Palette – First Impressions

Hello beautiful ladies,

In November last year, I posted a Christmas wishlist (read about it here) with both the Chocolate Chip and White Chocolate Chip palettes on it. I wrote then that the choc chip I could get by without but the white chocolate one was the one that interested me.

Then, with unfavourable reviews coming out of the US after the Black Friday release, my interest disappeared. Reviews are great for so many products but the ones with the mixed reviews….who do you believe? I know myself that I have products that have bad reviews but I love them. So, as you can tell, I caved in without breaking my actual goal ‘policy’ because this is a limited edition.

  • TOO FACED White Chocolate Chip Eyeshadow Palette
  • RRP – $37.00AUD from Mecca buy it here

WHY? It felt like I had just bought the Sweet Peach collection when this little palette was released on the 28th February. I wasn’t interested though because of the reviews and I’d bought the palette everyone had been raving about (Sweet Peach) so why do I need this one? I would’ve happily left it at that except Mecca had a Q and A on Facebook and someone asked how long the White Choc would be in stock and the answer was until sold out with no restock. Okay, plenty of companies say there will be no restock and there is, but there’s also cases I’ve missed out because I’ve put it off.

That thought – that once its gone, its gone – made me start thinking and the conversation went a little like this:

Responsible brain – ‘do I need this? I wanted it so badly a few months ago so are you willing to say no? Plus, its $37 – you won’t go broke if you don’t like it.’

Okay, my brain is very persuasive. In my cart it goes, along with 5 or 6 other items (that’s what used to happen).

Responsible brain – ‘Hang on, you have to put these on next month’s goal rewards because none of it is limited edition.’

Makeup addict brain – (sulky face) ‘Stupid rules – who made these stupid rules – I need everything in this cart.’

Responsible brain – ‘Take it out.’

Makeup up brain – (takes all items out reluctantly, except the Nars concealer) ‘Concealer and foundation shouldn’t be included – they are needs and I’m not paying postage costs anyway.’ (defiant face)

Responsible brain – ‘Fine.’

Make up brain – (happy face)

Anyway, that’s pretty much how my thoughts worked in this conversation. Please tell me I’m not the only one who has brain struggles.

FIRST IMPRESSSIONS Omg, its tiny!  Omg, it smells so good. Omg, its so cute. Unlike the larger Too Faced palettes, it is plastic with the choc bar embossing similar to the Chocolate Bar palette. It’s small enough to be travel friendly with quite a range of colours and looks to choose from, however, its lacking a darker smoky shade. If the black is anything like the one out of Boudoir Eyes, I’m probably not going to use it a lot (too glittery, not pigmented enough).

The rest of the palette is a mixture of nudes, a pink, sparkling purple, a grey and shimmering white in a range of matte and shimmers. I don’t think its a complete palette for every look but then, I use two palettes a lot anyway these days so that doesn’t bother me too much. The buttery texture I’m used to and easy blendability of the other Too Faced palettes is what I do expect though.

I’ll have a play with it and write my review on this palette that has had such mixed reviews.

Did you buy this palette? Or want it?

Until next time,

Nyobie

  1. I did want this originally but seeing it in store I changed my mind and opted for one of the new Smashbox Cover Shot palettes which are also quite small and good for travelling (and only $4 dearer than the Too Faced). I’m not upset I didn’t get the White Choc Chip but I am keen to hear your thoughts! I’ve heard mixed things as well 😘😘

    1. The Smashbox palettes are gorgeous. I’ve got the Ablaze but there’s two or three more I need too.
I will be reviewing the White Choc as well just to see if it was worth it.

      1. Thank you for reading 😊 Too Faced has some of my favourite products but I would definitely choose one of their cult products to try first 😘

  2. I LOVE miniatures, the size is comparable to the Smashbox Cover Shots. The Chips being a total of 5g, the Cover Shots being a total of 6.2g

I have both the White Chocolate Chip and the Matte Chocolate Chip and I use them together because it seems they were made for each other and it works very nice. Pigmentation lacks imo, especially compared to the Bon Bons palette, it takes some effort to get a look. But I love them anyway. I don’t have the other TF you mentioned, I wore the black under eye today and it’s almost completely worn off (yes, I always use primer under lids too). Overall, since I got them discounted, I’m happy. Although more with the novelty of them.

    1. This is a great piece of info – I do have the Ablaze Covershot palette and I love that too because it’s so pigmented and easy to use. I agree with what you’ve said about the palette. I didn’t get a discount and the Choc Chip one won’t be available in Australia so I won’t be able to have them compliment each other though. Thank you for reading 😊

  3. I wanted this palette, but I read all the bad reviews and got scared away. I think I would like it, but we’ll see if I end up picking it up since my initial excitement has waned 😛 I can’t wait to hear your comprehensive review! 😁

    1. I was exactly the same – wanted it so bad, changed my mind after the reviews and then ended up with it anyway. I’m using it all next week so the review shouldn’t be two far behind 🤗

    1. I’ll pick the best of my motd looks next week when I use it and include that in the review. I’ll need other palettes to complete the look though – it’s not a stand alone palette.

  5. Like all too faced palettes this looks so cute. I think the colours are lovely, but wouldn’t compliment my features, and trust me, my brain communicates just like yours when trying to justify why I need/want something, usually makeup related ☺️☺️

      1. Thank you – I’ll give the palette plenty of time to let me give a full review especially after all the bad ones – I don’t want to write it off without giving it a fair go 🤗🤗

      2. Bad reviews don’t mean it’s bad though, it’s totally subjective.. I think it looks gorgeous but I’m so olive I know this would not be for me, but I want to hear about bc I love the look of it 😍😍

      3. You’re totally right – everyone has their own opinion. I’ve tried two different looks this week with it and there’s pros and cons but definitely not as bad as I’ve read about.

  6. Also, wanted to mention since you missed the Matte Chocolate Chip – it’s 11 of the 15 colors in the full size Chocolate Bar! So if you get/have the large one then you already have everything in the tiny counterpart. 🙂

  7. Its so cute, in love with the packaging 😍. But the colour selection is a bit limited i think. Then again i would buy it just for the cuteness factor 😻.

    1. Thank you for reading 😊 Too Faced have always been one of my favourite brands but the quality lately has been a bit up and down so with this Palette i wasn’t as excited but it’s not a bad palette 😍

  8. I passed on this palette but I also didn’t know about it. Lol!! I too get brain struggles and though reviews are extremely helpful, I also have to keep in mind that sometimes people may improperly use it, they may have a different skin tone or simply the shades were too cool or warm for them. I only bought one palette last year, the abh renaissance palette. I will forever love it but a freind of mine didn’t think so, didn’t like it and actually return it 😵 turn out she was more of a simple palette gal, so you never know! Always a good idea to go down the store and check it out in person if it’s possible.

    1. I try to keep that in mind and ask questions about skin tone etc if I want to compare. There’s not many palettes I’ve regretted though some are used more than others. I must say though that the Renaissance is one of my faves. Thank you for reading 😊

    1. I’ve got a few I’d recommend depending on what I’m trying to achieve but I really like Urban Decay Optical Illusion with Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer. It works to fill in Pores and gives me a glow as well.

    1. If I had to use just one for the rest of the year, I’d choose the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow. It’s expensive but worth it. Because it is the Contour and highlight, that’s all I’d need but if I had to choose a highlighter I love, it’s Be Mac Gleaming Blush. It’s an intense highlighter so isn’t suitable for all looks though like the CT.

      1. I’ve tried a couple of different ones over the years from different brands but I’m not a big fan of the tingling – it’s on the borderline of unpleasant 😬

  14. IG: _tgbeauty_ I loved your review. I skipped out on this palette because of the size and reviews I’ve watched. I love your brain thoughts as you decide if you want to buy it. I’m pretty sure all makeup junkies do it. I know I do. 😂
